Wii U games Where U at?!

Journal Entry: Thu May 23, 2013, 11:43 AM

The following is a rant about Nintendo and the videogame industry now days in general :'I Warning its a big wall of texts, Nintendo.. water u doing....

I might as well begin with an apology for a journal I posted half a year ago back in December 2012 about the misleading fun and joy I had with the Wii U. I say misleading because at the time yes I was having lots of fun with games like New Super Mario Brothers Wii U and Scribblenauts Unlimited and Nintendoland. And sure! They were great fun, I mean those are games that I have finished already (after like a month, cos its so freakin easy! Difficulty level where did you go) but I might still one day go back to it and replay it from the beginning just for fun's sake, but then now what..? Its mid May 2013 and there hasn't been any new games that ain't either cross platform or ones I ain't interested in. And trust me if the Wii U game is cross platform I would definately get the PS3 or 360 version because 1) The controller's more comfortable, the Wii U controller is way too big and takes up too much power with the constant screen being turned on, and I ain't spending another $60 for a Wii U Pro Controller. 2) If I am to play the game online there would be a much larger community, with fighting games like Injustice Gods Among Us for example. NOW, OK SO WHAT THE F HAPPENED TO SMASH BRO AND ZELDA AND MARIO KART? Its been half a year and not a single announcement about their most anticipated titles? I don't wanna sound like a bitch but with the announcement of Xbox One and PS4 being announced, things ain't looking too good for the future of Nintendo. To me it seems like the Wii U wasn't ready in the first place (And you can tell by the lack of games) but Nintendo got the news that PS4 and Xbox One are being announced soon so Nintendo quickly released the console to try to rack up some sales. T.T' I just feel the Nintendo customers aint being treated right.. For one the Wii U's system feels like a PS3 360 console to me, it does not feel like it belongs to as the same gen as PS4 and Xbox One.. AND THIS HAS HAPPENED before with the Wii comparing with PS3 and 360 do you remember? The Wii Graphics feel like it belonged to the PS2 and Xbox era.. BUT THE WII DID IN FACT DO VERY WELL! How come? Well firstly you got the 1st party stuff like Mario and Mario Kart and Smash Bro and Zelda, all the usual sellers. But the Wii-mote motion controls is what made the sales go well, whether its actually FUN to wave your controller around for hours is debatable. But the thing is family members can get involved you know? Its a great party console its true, even my grandma at age 70 played Wii during family gathering. And during the early days of the PS3 360 Wii era yes Wii was the ONLY CONSOLE with this type of motion control. So good job Nintendo on the Wii, it was very innovative and a great gimmick (Yes I called it a gimmick), but what now? Are you gonna use the same gimmick to try to sell the Wii U? Well YES NINTENDO DID EXACTLY THAT. Except this time with an extra screen on your controller (Which I found absolutely no purpose for in the games I like to play on the Wii U). Did the Wii U sell well? Nope! I've been reading sales numbers and the Wii U did HORRIBLY, the only thing keeping Nintendo alive from this poor performance is the fantastic DS sales and the 3DS which also didn't do too bad. So why didn't the same tactic work for Wii U that worked so well for the Wii? Cos its the same freakin gimmick, many families already has a Wii and the Wii U really hasn't got anything new to show. Not to mention the PS3 and 360 also followed the Wii's success and followed the motion control path, so its not even that big of a deal to wave your arms in front of the TV like an asshole anymore. Not to mention the BIGGEST FLAW of the Wii U, THE GAMES. Nintendo needs to realise.. no I rephrase.. VIDEO GAME COMPANIES needs to realise that no matter how many motion control gimmick or how amazing the graphics are or how well your console can protect itself from a nuclear attack or whatever, ITS THE GAMES THAT KEEPS A GAMER HAPPY. I might go on a tangent here and talk about that absolute waste of time Xbox One reveal conference was..

OK so the Xbox One got revealed two days ago, they had like an hour and a half conference to cover it. and it was boring as F for a gamer, without going into too much details pretty much they spent VERY little time talking about gaming and a lot of time about improving your TV experience and sports and talking about a Halo TV series and how the Xbox One can play blu-ray (which I find very funny cos Microsoft has to pay Sony to get a blu-ray player in their console). Someone showed me a clip that summarised the conference, its pretty funny www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbWgUO… . Anyway my point is this, it seems like the trend right now is video game companies want to put as many bullshit stuff onto their console as possible, so it can be a freakin multi-purpose box in your living room, I wouldn't be surprised if they give the console the ability to bake pies and make coffee. Why? Well the most obvious is that fact that now MANY games are cross platformed, so how do you beat your competitors? You just have to keep adding extra shit to your console so when customers compare the two, they would pick one with more shit. But also for another reason, the parents. All these extra features are there so that the parents can feel like they are not just getting a gaming console for their child but rather something that the whole family can make use of. Thats why Microsoft spent 3/4 of the conference talking about all these features we gamers don't give a shit about, sure the core users of the consoles are gonna be kids and teenagers, but who has the money to pay for all these? The parents. Thats their strategy.

Ok so thats Xbox One and PS4 with their money making scheme. But what about Wii U? It doesn't play Blu-ray.. HELL it doesn't even play DVD. What's going on Nintendo? Well thats the thing with Nintendo.. they always do things their way. I don't know if they are geniuses or idiots, but from looking back at the older consoles it seems that they always find a way to get away with it. I don't know if its the loyal fans they have or what, I mean they DO have a long history with games and everyone knows and love Mario so maybe thats why Nintendo is still doing ok? So who knows maybe Wii U can pull some magic later on. Perhaps MORE GAMES MAYBE? I even had to buy the crossed platform Sonic All Star Racing Transformed for the Wii U instead of the PS3 version just so that my Wii U won't be sitting there collecting dust. Great game Sonic All Star Racing Transformed by the way. But other than that yeah my Wii U ain't being played at all. And I just feel a bit betrayed you know? I bought the Wii U on the first day of its release, Im a loyal fan right? And now half a year in and Nintendo's been quiet about any new games. So you know what? I went back to playing the PS3, its as simple as that. But I know not everyone are spoiled like me with freakin every console ever to satisfy my gamer need, maybe some of you are only allowed one console and you got the Wii U from your parents for xmas. Well.. patience is the key I guess. I don't like what Nintendo is doing now, but I know they do care about their fans, even IF money is all they care about, they still have a reputation to live up to... although thats starting to decline too with the whole blocking youtuber's profit plan.. omg it seems like everything Nintendo does now days is getting people more and more angry. It just seems like Nintendo has too much of an ego and think that no matter what they do, the fans will like it no matter what... BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? Time will tell. AND I REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG ABOUT NINTENDO. Maybe at E3 they will announce all the big titles with a release date... I dunno.. I mean then again many game companies are skipping the Wii U.. maybe they are not sure if Wii U is worth it?

Oh I AM quite happy about ONE freakin game they announced though. Scribblenauts Unmasked, I hope its as fun as the last Scribblenauts. FINALLY MY WII U WILL BE PLAYED AGAIN.

:bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletpurple::bulletgreen::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletpurple::bulletgreen:IT IS CURRENTLY POKEMON MONTH 2:bulletgreen::bulletpurple::bulletyellow::bulletred::bulletgreen::bulletpurple::bulletyellow::bulletred:

I totally changed my mind on not getting a Wii U when I saw SONIC LOST WORLD!! :D :D I'm getting it for both 3DS and Wii U (when I get when...)

Yeah, but the Super Mario 3D World looked promising, too.

Yeah, I actually decided not to get a WiiU at launch...(for some reason the limited amount of games turned me off). I was planning on getting a PS3 this Christmas since the system and games are cheap now that the PS4 is announced. I was really looking forward to Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed for WiiU, but I already have it for 3DS (though glitchy), and can just get it for PS3. Also, I have always been a Nintendo person (because they were cheap), but the only games they really have I love are Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, and Mario. I need a PS3 to get my SONIC GENERATIONS!! (I was forced to buy the 3DS since Wii didn't get it D:)

Anyway, yeah, I was just looking at the WiiU library at my local GameStop a few hours ago, and was massively disappointed to see such a small variety. I was thinking that "Oh, maybe they'll have some more soon since it has been months since the launch". Guess I was wrong. However, I can't wait to see Nintendo at E3!

Eh, to be honesty, the Wii U and 3DS had rough beginnings. The momentum's starting to build up now however, especially with the 3DS. That, and E3 I believe is going to announce these 'missing titles' that you mentioned. I do agree that they need to focus on the gaming aspect more.

Eh, years of customer dedication to Nintendo will leave me by their side no matter what people say. Sales don't matter, so long as they continue to churn out the titles I love. I'd rather put my trust in a company that hasn't done me any wrong thus far, than another who has a bad track record (*cough*Microsoft*cough*)... seriously, that Xbox One reveal. Ugh...

I'm still optimistic about the Wii U and Nintendo as a whole. I mean, look at the 3ds, for the first few months it had nothing to play but given time, it has many games and, in my opinion, well worth the money.

That being said, if recent developments teach me anything, it's that Nintendo is not infallible. They have more competition with the home console market than the portable market. Still, I'm certain they will announce some big thing at their E3 Nintendo direct as they have already mentioned Smash Brothers and Mario Kart.

Hopefully, games will come to the U when Nintendo makes more games for it.

This is why I wait a looooooong time before I buy a console. It's not just Nintendo. All companies do this. Even the PS3 started with a poor launch line-up at first and I haven't heard much from the PS Vita.

The only systems I am interested in buying right now are a 3DS (now that it ACTUALLY has plenty of games coming out for it) and a PS3. I am not so pessimistic with the PS4 as I am with the XBOX one but why would I want a system that most likely will take a while to have sufficient games when I can buy a console that already has tons of games for it?

Honestly the only thing that matters when picking a console, to me anyway, are the exclusives.
So far the only thing that can boost the Xbox One's reputation are the 15 exclusives it claims to now have and somewhere down the line I see an inevitable "Xbox All Stars" type of game being squeezed out.

As for me, I made my up my mind on getting a Wii U, might get a PS4 but its still debatable.
Also, I'm mainly getting a Wii U for the 3rd party exclusives such as Bayonetta, No More Heroes 3 and Rayman Legends (even though its not really exclusive).

Well I guess it the same for many people, I have a XBOX 360 [isn't that old, and I didn't buy that many games] but I feel betrayed, All the stuff about Used games, Indie games, Kinect required everytime, it's terrible.
The thing with nintendo , I think, is that they are kinda hermetic, but they have some of the most interesting exclusive games.
Someway, I don't mind that much the "epic" graphics that xbox/sony try to sell us, which is great but there's more in games that graphics.

At least I'll enjoy Animal Crossing soon XD

On the pro side, the 3DS has a really amazing bunch of games (Fire Emblem: Awakening is so fun I can't even put it down, and we got Animal Crossing and Pokemon coming up which are always great) and it's selling pretty well. Ninty's good at handhelds.

But yeah I am a little worried about that Wii U :/ it must be frustrating owning one and not having anything good on the horizon... it'll come eventually at least.

While the year of 2013 may be the year of Luigi, 2013 is not the year of the Wii U. Sales are not good for the system fans are bashing it left and right, and developers are either passing up on the system, or just flat out laughing at the system. A lot of people are predicting the doom of Nintendo and are saying that they have shot themselves in the foot with the Wii U.....but there is a big difference between shooting yourself in the foot, and shooting yourself in crotch! (If you're stupid enough to do so.) And apparently, Microsoft was stupid enough to do so!

They basically told gamers "Hey guys wanna see some cutting edge games on our new console?" Well tough shit! Now we demand that you either go to

a) Sony, because the PS4 is actually something to look forward to! or

b) Nintendo, because even though they have a console that is playing catch up with the last generation, they're still going to release first party titles you want to see!

So yeah don't bother with our system, because they have much better stuff than our new console." I'm not gonna talk about the VCR design because that's been done to death.

People may be disappointed in the Wii U, but the Xbox One Reveal ALONE was enough to make people angry. In my opinion I believe the Wii U will get itself off of the ground eventually, but the Xbox one....good luck guys.

If I have been a big Xbox 360 fan I guess I would say more about the Xbox One, but since I am more of a Sony/Nintendo fan. The conference didn't affect me that much, I just thought they were not very smart but didn't hurt my feelings or whatever (Lucky!) however for Nintendo I am very disappointed for now :'U

It didn't affect me as an xbox fan it affected me as a gamer. Microsoft made a lot of dumb moves with the console and the reveal, so much so, that it makes me wonder who exactly is in charge up there. Am I disappointed in Nintendo? Very much so yes!
Am I angry at Microsoft? 100 PERCENT YES!

So far it doesn't look very impressive. There are also a lot of people that say it looks like a VCR. I wonder if Microsoft realized that the 'bigger is better' mentality went out years ago. Hell if anything, 'smaller is better' is the new mentality.

Gaming companies don't care about their customers anymore. Now it's just "give me your money you ungrateful little shit!"

The launch of the WiiU sucked. I bought it when it first came out and haven't played it for like 3 or 4 months now. They need to release games from their popular franchises (like Zelda, Super Smash Bros.).. cause really, almost every game on the WiiU now is something I wouldn't pay for. I have no idea why they didn't push back the WiiU release if they didn't have some great games lined up for the launch.

I enjoyed Super Mario Bros. U until I finished it. :B

thats how i feel! I tell you why I think they dont push back the Wii U release. cos they KNOW PS4 and Xbox One are being revealed, with a lot of content on their consoles and amazing graphics and if Wii U is being announced now then it would be compared with the PS4 and Xbox One. its like "Oh your consoles has skype and voice commands and watch blu-ray? Our Wii U doesn't even play DVD... But our graphics are cool.. like as good as the PS3 and Xbox 360.. yeah" Sure many Nintendo gamers feel Nintendo's selling point isnt about graphics and extra stuff in the console and its more about the gameplay. BUt if you ask someone who has little knowledge of games (Mainly talking about the parents, the ones paying for it) then yeah they would compare all three new gen console and think Wii U is the weakest of the three. Cunning Nintendo releasing a console that isnt ready!

Ironically next gen consoles right now are taking a step backwards, such as eliminating backwards compatibility or not doing a good job tackling the used games market. The WiiU gets crap for being "current gen" but if current gen doesn't have this problem then I wont mind it. ^^;

Hell, the primitive consoles were simpler anyways.

I agree with you, the only reason id buy wii u is for that one zelda game, and one smash bros ^^;
Glad im not the only one who thinks that nintendo is really declining, i was always a nintendo fangirl and i would ALWAYS stick by nintendo. Being one of those kids who can only get one console a generation i always bought nintendo. Except not this gen o.0

E3 this year is going to be so bad for nintendo! Since they dont have a new console to announce, so they better come up with super amazing games! And why would they annouce the wii u so early that was such a bad move! With a years extra time they couldve made a lot of improvements >_<

Yeah nintendo is really behind in their thinking, I think they think 'Oh we have Mario and Zelda, so we can do whatever we want with our console and people will like it' so they develope Wii U, which feels like a Wii with the last generation graphics. Then realise 'Oh shit PS4 and Xbox One is coming out with some crazy stuff going on.. we don't wanna be compared so we will just release the Wii U early, even if we got no games'

I considerar my self sort of a Nintendo fan, basically for 3 reasons: 1.- Zelda  2-Metroid 3- I've never had enough $ to own more than one console :XD: hahaha (so I'm stuck to Wii+DS 3D).
I totally agree with you about the part where nintendo was kinda like left behind (technologically speaking) by X-Box 360 & PS3, but basically survived 'cause of the motion controller and all the familly fun time it brought, so when I saw the promo videos (most speficifically that Zelda short-> [link] for the WiiU I immediately wanted to put my hands on it (and star some savings). I was amazed by the new system's capabilities (compared of course, to it's predesesor: Wii).
And now reading your journal I realized how long I've been sort of disconnected from the video games and that's actually true how quiet has the game launging have been at least the signature games, šause the story for crossed platform is totally different . I'd say your theories are quite accurate and I agree the scene paints quite a sad story here, but you know, as I mentioned in the begining, I'm a Zelda fan so I'll suck all the happines out of the Zelda hope I can! It really lifted my spirit reading a few articles [link] if they got anything right, the Zelda for WiiU it's gonna be so like monster HUGE it's gonna be worth the wait (would it? :hmm:), but mean while they gonna entertain us with the Wind Waker remake and then A Link To The Past 2 for the 3ds-> [link]
So how ever I see it it's gonna be a win win! at least on the Zelda side of it... the question remains, after Zelda is out and played... then WHAT? are we gonna have to wait for the Wii Usuck2014 to launge an other worth Zelda game like they Have been doing? (they only launge with new consoles), but I'm just talkin' Zelda here, so what will it happen to other games? Do they have any good bullets left?
I really wonder if Nintendo's future it will be as apocalliptic as you suggest it will be, 'cause again, it sound very accurate -and scary- to me! :XD: (loved the journal, BTW :smooch:)

Yeahhhh I really hope the next Zelda game would be epic, to be honest I wasn't very happy with Skyward Sword, the motion control got really tedious after a while, especially with using the bird to fly around.. And I didn't like the cel shaded painted graphics they tried to do with the game.. I didn't mind the Twilight Princess art style at all, in fact I would say Twilight Princess's style and storyline and overall game is better than Skyward Sword in every sense. Well ya what is Wii U gonna do with itself after Zelda is released... I really have no clue.. another Zelda? But then again Nintendo has the 3DS so thats cool. I dont have a 3DS but I imagine if Nintendo product is all I am getting then at least I got a 3DS to play Kingdom Hearts and Mario and Fire Emblem and Pokemon Dungeon and stuff

I agree with you, I haven't touched my Wii U since December. We got it for Christmas and it's been laying in the cabinet collecting dust since we beat Nintendo Land and NSMBU 100%. My brothers and I only agreed to get it because we knew if we didn't we would be missing out on all the new games of our favorite franchises that the ol' Wii wouldn't be compatible with. We didn't care too much about the new gimmick, it was recycled and still alright, but we just wanted to be able to play the new games.
There are games this year that I am definitely looking forward to though. Pikmin 3, Yarn Yoshi Wii U, Sonic Lost World, and then there's that new Zelda U game that I believe was confirmed but not yet announced. Not to mention the Zelda Wind Waker HD remake. : D I hope they announce a lot more games soon though. They need to announce another epic Mario title for the Wii U like Galaxy was for the Wii.

The Wii U really doesn't feel like a next gen console. The controller has TERRIBLE quality. I think the original iPhone has better graphics than that stupid thing. Plus, they keep polishing the turd that is New Super Mario Bros. and thinking it will make people happy. The crap they are pulling with the Luigi version is so damn lazy and greedy I can't even. My Wii U has just been collecting dust.

Don't even get me started on the crap that Pokemon has been producing for the Wii/Wii U. There hasn't been a decent game from them on those systems since Gamecube. Hoping for something that ISN'T Rumble or the stupid Park series after 6th gen is released, but I'm not very hopeful.

Writing and design(the writing and design in the game is the reason I decided to become a game designer as my career), setting (a video game set in the suburbs of the 90's among other places, complete with plenty of pop-culture references and parodies of traditional JRPG mechanics), the music ([link] [link] ) enemy designs (you fight a giant mutant barf, a hippie, a cult leader, a painting, and various other fantastic enemies), innovation (inventing the auto-win mechanic for JRPGs that made the level grinding usually present in traditional jrpgs 10 times easier) and most of all the light hearted humor with just a pinch of seriously emotional moments that go beyond almost every game I've ever player (with Mother 3, the sequel to Earthbound, being one of the few exceptions). However I won't go into the details too much because I really don't want to spoil the games. Just like reading Homestuck, watching evangelion (before the ending of course) or playing Paper Mario Thousand Year Door (all three of which is of course also highly recommended btw), Earthbound (and it's sequel Mother 3, which is in someways even better than Earthbound) is something you have to experience to understand why people love it so much. However, I'm certain that if you enjoyed Pokemon, you will definetely enjoy Earthbound. After all, many of the people who worked on Earthbound would go on to create Pokemon Green(Blue) and Red.

Still haven't convinced you to give it a try? Here [link] is a review that goes over some of the more interesting parts of the game. Also, if you're interested, here (Part 1: [link] Part 2: [link] and Part 3: [link] ) is the history of Earthbound, which shows why fans like myself are to this day so passionate about it, why it is so important for as many wii u owners as possible to buy the virtual console version of Earthbound and why it is such a big deal [link] for Earthbound fans that it is getting rereleased at all after all these years.

Anyway, I hope you do at least give the game a try when it is rereleased onto Wii U. I guarantee that it is a journey that you won't regret (or forget =D)
